Play Therapy - Mark's Story
Image depicting Mark's Story
Mark was a 9-year-old boy who had a Brain Tumour and was referred for play therapy, because he was experiencing constant nightmares. His self-esteem was low and he found it difficult to look at his large scar and loss of hair. Play therapy sessions were organised for Mark and we were able to help him with his anxieties and fears. Mark came to welcome the therapy sessions as they helped him to sort through his feelings, he gradually grew calmer and was able to relax and spend some happy times with his family again. Unfortunately the news was bad and the Tumour was still growing and progressing quickly and there was no more treatment that would be beneficial for Mark. Our Play therapy sessions continued with Mark until he became unconscious, he died soon after.

Two months later Mark's brother was finding it very difficult to cope as he was missing Mark so much. He was offered therapy sessions to help him work through this difficult time. This bereavement support continued for several months.

223 children/young people were helped by one of our Therapists in the last year.
