I am writing to let you know about some fantastic holidays we had, organised by the Christian Lewis Trust.
Our ‘baby’ of the family, Sarah, was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma just days before Christmas 1999, aged 7 years. The start of the millennium was a most horrific, unimaginable time for our family. However, after Sarah had been through gruelling chemo and an eight hour operation to remove the tumour – we went on a fabulous family holiday to Disneyland Paris!
Big Thunder Mountain became Sarah’s favourite ride and we had countless number of rounds on that! Sarah even took a video herself of the ride, the whole way round! The only screams came from me (Mum)! much to Sarah’s amusement.
The ice cream parlour was another favourite. And of course one of the best things was being able to ‘jump the queues’. As other parents will know, being able to do that was so good when your child is not feeling 100%.
Another fantastic family holiday was had in 2001:- one week in the villa and one week at give kids the world.
My abiding memory of the villa is that Sarah wanted to be in the swimming pool almost every minute of the day! Great fun was had there. And give kids the world – What and amazing place. Again, the swimming pool was a favourite and the copious and free amounts of ice cream and hotdogs. (not good for your waistline)
And happy times again in Disneyland Parks. I remember one day in particular when Sarah was almost completely surrounded by Disney Characters (as and attendant had noticed her badge) It was magical and we got lots of wonderful photos.
These holidays and all the memories will stay with us forever; that gave Sarah and the whole family some fantastic, happy times together, even in the midst of something so horrific as childhood cancer.
Sadly, our precious Sarah died in September 2004 aged 11 years, but her memory shines on.
